How “they” say you find your Mid-Century Dream Home
I saw another article today about the process of finding and purchasing perfect a mid-century gem:  familiarizing yourself with a list of big-name architects, learning the locations where they built their Signature Homes, and wondering whether you should be willing to move across the country to live in one. Â
I’m here to tell you that  you don’t have to wait for a once in a lifetime opportunity or move across the country. You can find a wonderful mid-century of your own (right where you live) much more easily.
How to realistically find yours:
Mid-century ranches are everywhere. Â There are 15 million of them in America. And, they are one of the most affordable home types on the market.
Here’s the formula: take a modest mid-century builder-grade Ranch and give it a tune-up
Why I love Mid-century Ranch Houses
The right size
Have you heard of Goldilocks? Â Not too big and not too small.
A great location
Mid-century Ranch houses are usually found in walkable, mid-century neighborhoods. They are close to schools libraries, parks, and local businesses.
Very well-built  Â
Ranches were built to a standard of construction that is hard to match today. They use materials you can no longer get at any price.
Livable Â
Ranches were built for casual modern lifestyles that are very well suited to the way people live today.
Easy to add onto  Â
If you DO need to adjust your floor plan, you can! The rectangular form, and simple gable roof of a standard Ranch,  mean it’s easy to put an addition on the back or front. You can add on the living room, home office, or extra bedroom that you need.
Mid-Century Charm
Finally, no matter how basic your Ranch is, it’s guaranteed to have some elements of mid-century charm.   Original brass light fixtures, honey blond wood trim, fieldstone fireplace, or an old fashioned telephone nook between the kitchen and dining room –  you’ll find something!
What are you waiting for?
With a few well done updates (and upgrades) any Builder basic ranch can become your mid-century modern Dream Home.
